”One of the region's most important leadership roles”
Handelskammaren Mälardalen is now seeking a confident and experienced CEO who leads with clarity, trust, and judgment, and who wants to take responsibility for the voice of business in Mälardalen.
At Handelskammaren Mälardalen, you contribute to our long-term ambition: to create Sweden's best growth region together with the companies. We gather around 800 member companies in Örebro County, Västmanland, and western Södermanland, acting as an independent, unifying force for the business community in dialogue with politics, authorities, and other societal actors.
We are an organization with high engagement and a strong desire to make a difference. We are now looking for leadership that creates clarity, structure, and long-term stability, both internally and externally.
About the role
As the CEO of Handelskammaren Mälardalen, you have overall responsibility for operations, finance, work environment, and employees. You report to the board and lead the organization towards set goals with a focus on long-term relevance, member benefits, and sustainable capacity.
The role requires mature and structured leadership. You create a calm working environment through clear priorities, clear decision-making paths, and trust in the organization's competence. You lead through others, delegate responsibility, and ensure that operations do not become dependent on individuals.
Handelskammaren Mälardalen has about 16 employees distributed across three offices: Örebro, Västerås, and Eskilstuna. The operations include:
- networks and meeting places for the business community
- education, skills supply, and knowledge
- business policy advocacy and opinion formation
- member relations, projects, and business services
As CEO, you are the most visible representative of Handelskammaren Mälardalen. You take an active and credible role in public debate, in the media, and in dialogue with business, politics, and public actors. At the same time, the mission starts internally through leadership that creates direction, stability, and trust.
Leadership and personality
To succeed in this role, a secure, consistent, and decisive leadership style with an unpretentious approach is required. You are clear without being authoritarian, have high integrity, and make well-founded decisions even in complex and pressured situations.
You:
- lead through trust, structure, and clear frameworks, with low prestige and high availability
- create accountability without micromanagement and give others space to grow
- simplify complex issues and maintain focus on the essentials
- communicate clearly, respectfully, and effectively, even in dialogue and disagreements
- are solution-oriented, resilient, and stress-resistant, focusing on the whole rather than personal
positions - are comfortable with visibility but have no need to dominate. You let others succeed and take responsibility for the whole.
Your background
We are looking for someone who has:
- experience in a CEO role or another senior leadership position in a complex organization
- documented ability to lead through structure rather than operational micromanagement
- experience in business policy advocacy, opinion formation, or lobbying
- experience in entrepreneurship and business
- experience in external representation towards media, politics, and business
- good understanding of finance, governance, work environment, and business development
A relevant academic degree is required.
It is strongly meritorious if you have good knowledge of the region's business community and Handelskammaren Mälardalen's focus areas, such as infrastructure, skills supply, and regional development.
Location and conditions
The position is located within the region of Handelskammaren Mälardalen. The role requires a high physical presence in Örebro, Västerås, and Eskilstuna. Remote work is therefore not applicable.
